Q: Do you have a nurse on site 24 hours a day?

A: Yes. We have a Licensed Nurse and/or Certified Nursing Assistants on-site 24 hours a day. It's very important to ask retirement communities if a nurse is "available" 24 hours a day, or if he or she is actually "on-site".

Q: Is rent all-inclusive? What is all included?

A: Yes. Residents receive the following with their rent: 2 or 3 meals a day, all utilities, cable television, garbage pick-up, transportation, activities, emergency call system, housekeeping and so much more.

Q: Can you transport residents to doctors and dentists and is that an extra fee?

A: Yes, we can. And no, it is not! We transport residents in our Primrose van to doctors and dentists every day. It does not cost the residents any money to utilize this service.

Q: Is there a lease?

A: Independent Living and Townhome Villa residents must sign a 3-month lease. The Assisted Living lease is on a month-to-month basis.

Q: How do I reserve an apartment?

A: All you have to do is put down a $500 deposit.

Q: I've heard about Veterans Benefits, what is this?

A: Veterans or widows of veterans can qualify to receive the "Aid and Attendance" benefits from the Veterans Administration, so be sure to contact your local VA representative.

Q: What kind of activities do you offer your residents?

A: Where should we begin?! Our Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for putting together a calendar full of options. We have an exercise program in the Wellness Center that meets twice a week. Once a week we have a Sunchasers Club riding in the Primrose bus on a mission to enjoy the day wherever the sun may be. There is a schedule of movies that are showing in the theater. We have ice cream socials, games, parties, big public events and so much more!

Q: Do you allow pets?

A: Yes and we have several dogs and cats living among us. Our Primrose dogs come by the front offices to get a "special treat"!

Q: How do you differ from other retirement communities?

A: We are different than any retirement community you will find in Alaska. We have both independent and assisted living accommodations. Independent folks can choose between living inside the building or in one of our outside townhome villas. We have a nurse on-site 24 hours a day. Our amenities are first class, which you must see for yourself to believe.

Q: How do I know if my loved one needs independent living or assisted living?

A: Folks who need meals prepared, transportation and social activities would do fine in independent living. Once a resident needs medication management, bathing assistance, dressing and grooming among other types of daily living assistance, assisted living is the best option.

Q: How do I know what level of care my loved one is at?

A: Our Administrator and Nurse Manager will help make this decision with you. They will complete an assessment prior to your loved one moving in. This assessment is important because this helps us prepare for the arrival of new residents so we know just what to do the moment they walk into the door! We have four levels. The number of care services we provide will determine which level your loved one will be one.

Q: Are the assisted living apartments just one room?

A: No, our assisted living apartments are 575 square feet in size with a studio kitchen which includes a full size refrigerator. In the living room you will see the outlets are raised on the walls for easy access, the window sills are lowered and a thermostat which is controlled by the resident. Just off the bedroom you will find a walk-in closet and a large bathroom with multiple grab bars and a heat lamp to warm you when you step out of the shower. You will find detail everywhere you look!

Q: Are there visiting hours?

A: No. We have an open-door policy. Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to visit at any time.

Q: If I live an active independent lifestyle, why should I choose to live at Primrose?

A: Freedom! Primrose provides a lifestyle of freedom. You can travel without worrying about your home. You can dine in our dining room any time you choose. We do the maintenance, the housekeeping, the snow shoveling, and we take out the garbage. With all of our amenities, including the spa and fitness center, you can be as active as you choose. So, whenever, whatever, or if you choose, there is always something to do at Primrose. That's why we say, "This is Living"!

Q: Are your doors locked at all times? I'm concerned about people walking in and out who have no business being there.

A: You don't have to worry about this. We have side doors that are always locked. Our front doors are open during business hours. The main doors are locked in the evening. Family members are given keys to the building so they can come in during locked hours. It's important that our residents know only those we trust are given keys to.
